The United States will withdraw Burkina Faso from the trade agreement in Africa

The United States has said it will withdraw Burkina Faso from a trade agreement that allows African exporters to enter American markets duty-free.

President Joe Biden pointed to Burkina Faso’s lack of progress in “protecting the law and the political party” for the country’s exit from the African Development and Opportunities Act (Agoa). A US trade representative urged the government of Burkina Faso to take steps to fulfill the Agoa standards and “return to the path of democracy.

 

“Burkina Faso has had two coups this year, with the two leaders promising to end the ongoing insurgency by Islamists.

Is it in the interest of African countries to remain members of the trade agreement and is it better to exclude those who do not meet the conditions?
